Santa & Me Chicken Wire Frame

I have to say, I’ve had so much fun this year looking for thrifted items to makeover. When I went to Goodwill recently to find victims for my Creepy DIY Halloween Figurines, I stumbled upon this random, weirdly designed chicken wire frame on a stand thingy. I have no idea what purpose in the world it served, but I knew right away that some spray paint could quickly turn it into a Santa & Me Chicken Wire Frame. To me, the original color was pretty blah, but once I sprayed it red, it came alive. And if you love the idea of this project but know you’ll never find this at your thrift store, I’ve linked to another small chicken wire frame you can transform the same way. Let’s get started!

Santa & Me Chicken Wire Frame Rehab Steps

1: Clean off the frame and remove any stickers. Disassemble the clothespin.

2: Spray paint the chicken wire frame red, front and back. It only took me one coat.

3: Spray paint the two wood halves of the clothespin and the two chalkboard clips green. I sprayed one side, let them dry an hour, flipped, then sprayed the other side.

4: You can easily use white letter stickers or a white paint pen to do this step, but I elected to use my Cricut so the wording looked better than my handwriting and I wouldn’t have a bunch of leftover letters. Create your wording in Design Space. I typed “Sant & Me” and “2018” and used Cricut’s Tango Regular font. Make sure your wording is small enough to fit onto your green clip pieces.

5: Cut out your design on your Cricut and weed out the negative spaces.

6: Use transfer tape to move the vinyl wording over to the green clip pieces.

7: Grab your Santa photo and clip it onto the frame using the green clothespin.

8: Clip the Santa & Me to the top, side area and then clip the year to the bottom area.

That’s it! What a fun and easy makeover! Again, I have no idea what this piece was originally used for, but now it makes the perfect Santa & Me Chicken Wire Frame. Honestly, this could also be a cute frame for throughout the year if you painted it different colors. You could even nix the Santa part and just put Christmas and swap out different fun Christmas pics. SO many possibilities! What would you do?
