Linen Stitch Crochet Blanket

One of my favorite things to pin on Pinterest is different crochet blankets. It always amazes me how just a few simple stitches can be combined to create such different looks. I was making another snuggle blanket for a little boy this time and his absolute favorite colors are black and red. I wanted to find a stitch that would break up these bold colors, so off to Pinterest, I went. Ultimately, I settled on a cool-looking stitch from Marly Bird to make this Linen Stitch Crochet Blanket. I also found this video from Marly Bird very helpful when I needed a strong visual for creating this stitch.

You can use any yarn for this stitch, but as usual, I love using the super soft Blanket Yarn.

She shows a scarf on her pattern, but it’s easy to just count out extra chains at the beginning to get the blanket width you’d like. I chained 72 but you just need to choose an even number of chains for yours.

Alternate colors after two rows. She has separate instructions depending on what color pattern you’re going for.

I made a total of 44 color rows, a color row being two rows of the same color.

I made a simple border around the blanket with the black yarn using a single crochet.

The finished blanket is approximately 40 inches wide by 48 inches long.

The little boy was so excited to see his blanket and he was so polite and grateful for my efforts, which is nice. I think I’ll be using this stitch again in the future for sure. Even with regular yarn, it creates a thick blanket, but with the blanket yarn, it’s at least 1/2″ thick. I’d love to see how it looks in softer colors or with a mix of a bunch of colors, too. What color combo would you try?

You can also find a huge selection of blanket patterns over at All Free Crochet. I often find a wider variety of blanket styles there than I do on Pinterest.

  1. I think I never used the linen stitch before. I like how it separates the colors in an uneven way! Same as you I tend to go to Pinterest for crocheting inspiration.
