Getting Ready for Christmas Countdown Wreath

When it comes to Christmas wreaths, the possibilities are truly endless. Since I’ve made wreaths here before from all sorts of different materials, I thought I’d try my hand at a more traditional green type. On the pro side, it’s super easy to attach items to the wreath, especially with the little pine stems I found at Hobby Lobby. On the con side, unless you have lots of items to attach to the wreath, it seems empty or plain. Every time I thought I was done with this Getting Ready for Christmas Countdown Wreath several times but ended up adding more to it, lol. My family would walk by as I was working and comment on how it “needed something more.” Thanks, fam. Okay, so take a look at my wreath adventure below and be sure to check out all of the other featured Christmas wreaths.

Getting Ready for Christmas Countdown Wreath Steps

1: Prepare your Santa laundry. Mine came as a long garland with a few repeats, so I just cut off a section. You could easily make cute versions out of felt, though, if you can’t find these exact pieces. Cardstock would even work.

2: Tie loops onto each end of your clothesline and then string a pine stem through each loop. Stick the stems through and around the wreath, in between the branches, then twist to close on the back. Repeat for the other side.

3: Paint the wood plaque with the black chalkboard paint, getting the sides, too. Once it’s dry, hot glue two clothespins to the back.

4: I started out with the intention of writing the message in white paint pen, but I decided I didn’t feel like it, so I whipped out my handy dandy Cricut and quickly cut it out on white vinyl. The paint pen would have looked great, too, though, just like with my Christmas Countdown Sandwich Board project. Applying the vinyl was super easy. I also added a little Santa embellishment.

5: Once I was done decorating the plaque, I simply clipped it onto a couple of the branches at the bottom of the wreath.

6: Next came the sleigh bells. I cut six inches of narrow red ribbon for each one and thread that through the top opening then tied it into a bow. Then I threaded one of the pine stems through as well. I used that to attach each bell to the wreath, evenly spaced apart.

7: After that, I added the red ornament balls. I used the same method with the pine stems and twist tied them onto the wreath.

8: Finally, I added the wide red ribbon. I simply poked the ribbon through the wreath in certain places to create an irregular pattern all the way around the wreath.

That’s it! I have to say, I love how this Getting Ready for Christmas Countdown Wreath eventually turned out. The little clothesline with the mini Santa suit is too cute and the countdown sign will be fun for the kids to keep track of how many days until the big day. My son is definitely obsessed with how many days ’til Christmas, lol. I can see myself making more of these traditional wreaths in the future with some different color schemes and themes.
