Easy DIY Sea Glass Vases

What if I told you I made these Easy DIY Sea Glass Vases for only $1.38? Would you say whaaaat!? Would you give me side eye and think I was high on hot glue fumes? Well, it’s true (not the glue part) I found these two unassuming glass vases at Goodwill for only 69¢ each and I had everything else on hand. Aleisha got a boatload of these Martha Stewart glass paints on mega clearance and was kind enough to share them with me. That’s what crafty best friends do, right? Since moving to a beachy area in Florida, I’ve looked for sea glass every time I go to the beach but so far I’ve only found one piece. This paint gives me that same exact look, though, without all of the sand in everything for weeks.

Easy DIY Sea Glass Vases Steps

1. Wipe down the outside of your vases with the alcohol swabs (or rubbing alcohol.) This is to make sure there are no paint resistant oils left on the vase.

2. Squeeze some of the glass paint onto the paint pouncer and dab it onto the vase, starting at the bottom and working your way around and up the vase. Reapply the paint to the pouncer often so you don’t just lift off the paint. You want to overlap your dabs and blend the paint so it’s on there as evenly as possible. It will look kind of splotchy when it’s wet, but once it dries it will have that coveted sea glass look.

3. Let the paint dry completely before handling the vases. If you’re concerned with washability, the paint will need to cure for 21 days first, per the instructions.

That is seriously it! How incredibly simple were these Easy DIY Sea Glass Vases to make!? I have to tell you, I am madly in love with these vases now. That paint really did transform them into sea glass. Okay, not like magically, but keeping in mind sea glass doesn’t come in the shape of a vase, they look pretty realistic. So what color(s) would you make your vases? I have a few other colors, but I think I want to try this white-ish one called Summer Linen next.

  1. Gorgeous! I had not heard of this paint before so now I just must go shopping…can’t wait to try this! I have made sea glass vases using the spray paint but here in northwest Ohio warm, sunny, windless days are few and far between therefore using spray paint is a hassle. Thx for sharing this!

  2. Marie, I love it! The green one looks so realistic. My british friend Debbie went to Lanzarote, or was it Cypress? And found a beach full of beach glass. Her hubby got a little frazzled as she ended up with half her luggage full of sea glass. She even gave a big bag to me so I get to craft with it. Yay!!!
