Dollar Tree Rustic Mickey Ears Ornament

Aleisha and I may have mentioned a few times how much we love Disney. One of the weird things (among many lol) that we share in common is our ability to spot hidden Mickeys, even outside Disneyworld. When we see two smaller circles next to a larger circle, we see Mickey. So when I spotted these rattan decor balls at Dollar Tree in their floral section, of course, I saw Mickey. I sent a pic to Aleisha and she immediately said “hidden Mickey!” and it was settled. The neutral, natural color of the rattan looks so pretty that the ornament doesn’t really need much added at all (except a bow for Minnie.) You can make yourself one of these cute Dollar Tree Rustic Mickey Ears Ornament for less than $1 each! Trust me, that way less than a lot of the ornaments at the park shops, for sure.

Dollar Tree Rustic Mickey Ears Ornament Steps

1: Preheat your glue gun. Position the smaller balls on top of the larger ball until you find the sweet spot for them to be ears. Mark those spots on the larger ball so you can make sure to glue them onto the right spot.

2: Apply hot glue to your marked spots and stick the smaller balls to them, one at a time. There is definitely a sweet spot for where the ears should go. Too far apart or too close and you’ve got a molecule model, not Mickey’s ears.

3: Cut 12 inches of jute cord. Feed it through the top of the ball, between the ears, and tie the two ends into a knot. At first, was going to use natural colored jute, but it was too thick and I ended up liking the red much better anyway.

4: For Minnie, cut 9 inches of red ribbon and tie it into a small bow. Glue that to the larger ball near the base of the jute tie.

That’s it! No, really, it’s actually that simple. Could you add all sorts of extras to this Dollar Tree Rustic Mickey Ears Ornament? Of course, I just wanted to keep it streamlined like all of those hidden Mickey’s, two smaller circles next to one larger circle. But if that doesn’t suit your fancy, you could add some felt holly leaves or a pine tree sprig. You could also spray paint them to match your tree decor, either in solid colors or in metallics. Ooo, now I want to make some gold and silver ones. Luckily these are so inexpensive I can go grab more and try all sorts of combos. So would you leave them as is or change them up?
