White Flower Petal Covered Cone Tree

Welcome to Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop! Today we’re all sharing crafts made with items from the dollar store. Who doesn’t like loads of ideas for inexpensive crafts? I was inspired to make this White Flower Petal covered Cone Tree by a cone tree I saw somewhere that used feathers. It was pretty but pricey and I remember thinking I could make this out of something similar and then I had my lightbulb moment when I remembered I had loads of white flower petals left over from Aleisha’s Garden Tea Party Baby Shower. I found bags and bags of them at Dollar Tree. You get 300 petals per bag! Plus as a bonus, this craft is so, so fast. Now let’s get started!

Be sure to Save it on Pinterest if you want to make it later!

White Flower Petal Covered Cone Tree Steps

1. Paint the cone form white. I just painted one coat.

White Flower Petal Covered Cone Tree Step 1

Make Your Own Cone: Cut a half circle out of white posterboard. However tall you want it, measure that length from the straight side to the center of the circle’s arc. Curve it around to make a cone and secure with tape. Now cut a rectangle strip of posterboard to make a base. You’ll need to measure how tall to make it so that the top will touch the inside of the cone and lift the edge off the surface.

2. Now, I started with the clear tacky glue but the petals kept slipping down so I switched to a hot glue gun. Glue petals partially hanging off, around the bottom edge of the cone with the petals slightly overlapping as you go around.

3. For the next row, glue the first one in between two of the lower ones, covering about half of the lower petals. Continue gluing the petals around the cone form in rows.

4. When you get to the top, fold a petal partially in half and wrap it around the top point of the cone and secure it with clear tacky glue. I used a clothespin to hold it in place while it dried.

5. (Optional) If you’d like to add some sparkle, like me, spray some glitter spray paint over it very lightly.

That’s it! What did I promise you? A super fast craft. I was able to complete this whole cone in a smidge over an hour and I only burned my finger once. I really need some of those silicone fingertips I showed you in our Crafty Gift Guide. So after I made this, it gave me some inspiration for a pretty Spring floral cone using some of the pastel-colored flower petals I also have leftover. That’s months from now, though. Right now I’m still putting together my Winter Wonderland Room and this White Flower Petal Covered Cone Tree will be the perfect addition.
