My Candy Cane Holiday Door

Whew! Day 11 of the 12 Days of Christmas is here! Today we bring you loads of holiday porch decorations with a large variety of styles and themes. For my house, we don’t really have a porch at all, just a little concrete landing and my door. Boy, would I love even just a bit of an overhang when it’s raining, but no luck. I do have a pretty great door, though, and it’s perfect for hanging decorations since it has permanent bolts embedded in the house for the hurricane shutters. I’ll get into more detail about My Candy Cane Holiday Door in a few.

Be sure to Save it on Pinterest if you want to make it later!

So I have been gradually building up decorations to pull off a Candyland themed front yard for the past couple of years, buying items on clearance and whatnot. I was going to try to put everything together this year, but I’ve been just a wee bit busy creating a new tutorial or post for a solid 12 days, lol. That’s okay, my door is the one area outside I can confidently decorate, even if it’s not “finished” the way I plan to. My Candy Cane Holiday Door is pretty much what it sounds like. I have a giant wreath that I love that I’ve made over several times, I have a garland, and I’ve temporarily added some giant candy.

My Candy Cane Holiday Door Wreath

As I mentioned, this wreath is huge, measuring two feet across. It has permanent white lights in it, but I can’t plug it in without some serious Griswold electrical prowess. I think I found this peppermint striped ribbon and matching bow (you know I didn’t make that) at Michael’s a few years ago. I have loads of it.

I added two cute candy cane ornaments below the now for some detail and some miniature red ornaments. Looking at it tonight, though, I’m positive I want to swap those out for some small peppermint candy pics or something. I’m open to suggestions, so leave them in the comments below.

My Candy Cane Holiday Door Garland

I love green garland so much I must have 1000 feet of it, almost all with lights in them. So how I ended up decorating a length of it without lights is beyond me. You would have laughed and laughed watching me trying to find the nonexistent plug on that garland! Anyway, so for this garland, I wrapped some of the peppermint striped ribbon around the garland and easily secured it with a frond from the garland and the wire in the ribbon itself.

I added two cute candy cane ornaments off of each end and then attached two peppermint ball ornaments at the hanging points. I tried adding bows at these points, too, but it was just overkill.

There’s not much to say about these other than “hey, look at these cute giant candies I found at Hobby Lobby!” Hanging in my doorway probably won’t be their permanent home, but they were just too adorable to keep packed away until next year. I have seen so many cute giant candy pieces this year and I know I wanted to craft some, but it will all have to wait until I’ve gathered enough pieces for it to look cohesive. Do any of you do themes in your yard for Christmas?

Alright, that was short and sweet! Ha, sweet! I honestly do love to decorate outside during the holidays, lights and everything. We got some of those projector lights last year, though, and let me tell ya, I now have zero motivation to spend loads of time hanging traditional lights.

Your Candy Cane decor is adorable and so festive. I have been known to create a theme or two. We have neighbors with those projector lights and I just want to park in front of their home and watch a few minutes. Those are so fun!
