Mini Clay Pot Bird’s Nests

One thing you may not know about me yet is that I absolutely love miniature versions of things. I also like birds a lot, so when I was strolling through Michael’s floral section and saw these adorable mini nests and eggs, I knew I had to use them for my craft lightning project. This month we were tasked with making a craft in 15 minutes or less using terracotta pots. I had already settled on using mini pots (of course), so making Mini Clay Pot Bird’s Nests just seemed like a fun and cute idea. Let’s see how quick and easy they were to make!

Mini Clay Pots Bird’s Nests Steps

1. Plug in your hot glue gun to heat up while you paint. Paint your clay pots with the copper paint in horizontal strokes, keeping the paint smooth and thin. These horizontal strokes will make the pots look like they were originally formed with copper clay. In fact, I chose the copper paint because it’s like a metallic version of the terracotta color and doesn’t fight to cover it. By the time you finish painting the last pot, the first one will be dry.

2. Place a couple of the rocks inside of the pots to help weigh them down. Then place a small amount of Spanish moss on top of the rocks, letting a tiny bit here and there peek out over the edges of the pots.

3. Temporarily put the bird’s nest on top of the pot to see where it will touch and where you need to glue. Glue the bird’s nests to the inside edges of the pots.

4. Now put a few drops of glue and a teensy amount of Spanish moss inside of the nest.

5. Select a few miniature eggs and glue them into the nests.

6. And finally, glue (or clip) a bird onto the side of each nest. Since I had four birds and three nests, I made one with a bird pair. They’re in love.

So that’s it! I love it when crafts can turn out so pretty and don’t take five bazillion years to complete. I was pleasantly surprised at how incredibly fast that copper paint dried on those clay pots. That must be why they’re used so much in kids crafts, lol! These Mini Clay Pot Bird’s Nests will make a wonderful addition to my Spring decor and I love that they’re not necessarily Easter themed, so they can stay out for a while. So what do you think? How would you have made these differently?
