Ghastly Spider Egg Door Decoration

Do you know what is worse than a spider egg? A giant spider egg that’s hatching hundreds of baby spiders all over your house. Well, that’s my worst nightmare anyway. As you may have read from one of my other projects, every Halloween I decorate the outside of my house with a terrifying display of giant spiders, loads of smaller spiders, and copious amounts of spider webbing. I get creeped out each time I go in and out of my house! This year, though, I decided to step it up a bit with this Ghastly Spider Egg Door Decoration. It’s in the process of hatching, with over 200 baby spiders spreading out over my door. So, so creepy. Thank goodness they aren’t real or I’d have to burn my house down to the ground!

Ghastly Spider Egg Door Decoration Steps

1. Stuff two of the white grocery bags into one and roll it to make an ovalish ball. Wrap the end of the spider webbing around that until you can’t see the plastic. This is the spider egg.

2. Place the spider egg into the center of the willow wreath form and then thinly wrap the excess web around the wreath to secure the egg. You want to be able to see part of the willow wreath through the webbing. Cut off any extra webbing, you only need enough to secure the egg so it won’t fall out.

4. Cut small pieces from your magnet strip and stick them to the backs of 200-ish plastic spiders. This didn’t take as long as you might think. I watched a couple of TV shows while doing it and I was done.

That’s it! I think this Ghastly Spider Egg Door Decoration is pretty simple to make and a lot more accurate to all of the real-life spider eggs I’ve seen in my day. Of course, I was either doing my special rendition of the spider dance or running for my life when I saw those eggs, but I think I got it pretty spot on. I also like that I can reuse the egg and those spiders again next year. To remove the spiders, I just have to simply sweep them with my hand into a Ziploc. Easy peasy!
